How To Build A Rabbit Hutch

Instructions on How to Build a Rabbit Hutch
Designing an appropriate environment for rabbits will mean that you will need to know how to build a rabbit hutch if you do not plan to keep your rabbit inside the home. But don’t worry; a few step by step instructions will help you to provide a great home for your rabbits.
Raising rabbits can be a very satisfying experience. Some people enjoy keeping their pet rabbit inside their home, but for others who may have multiple rabbits or just don’t care to have them indoors, it will be necessary to build a rabbit hutch. Long used as the best habitat for rabbits in captivity, your rabbit hutch can be of any size that is suitable for the number of rabbits you have.
Two types of hutches are the most commonly built; all wooden enclosures or all wire enclosures. The wire is the easier of the two to make, and can be put up relatively quickly, so this is the enclosure that will be discussed here.
Materials that you will need to build a rabbit hutch made of wire are:
●An indoor wire rabbit cage
●High quality 2x4 wood boards (the exact number will depend on the size of your hutch)
●Sheet of plywood
●Nails or staples
●Hinges and hardware
You will also need a few tools for the job. A hammer, tape measure, wire cutters and a saw will all be needed as your progress. To protect your hands, you may want to have a pair of flexible gloves.
By purchasing a ready-made indoor wire rabbit cage, you greatly reduce the amount of work you need to do to build a rabbit hutch; most of the enclosure is already done for you. Measure the length and width of the wire cage, and cut the 2x4 boards to the measures. These will provide the support frame along the bottom of the cage, giving it a sturdy bottom that will enable you to move the enclosure easily. The frame can be attached securely to the wire cage using either nails or staples.
The next steps to build a rabbit hutch are: using additional 2x4 boards, cut legs for the hutch that will be high enough to hold the hutch about 3 feet off the ground, and provide support up the sides to the top of the wire enclosure. Attach the legs to the four corners of the support frame using your hammer and nails.
The last step to build a rabbit hutch is to cut the sheet of plywood to fit the top of the wire cage, and then attach to the two leg supports with hinges and hardware. Test the hutch for stability, and make any necessary adjustments.
These steps will help you to build a rabbit hutch for your rabbits. After adding items your rabbits will need to live comfortably, your hutch will be in move in condition for your rabbits.
